Meeting about senior citizens center planned

A meeting to gauge public interest in the potential reopening of the senior citizens center at 124 S. Main St. in Brownstown is planned for 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Supper will be served at 6 p.m., followed by the meeting. Anyone wishing to bring a covered dish for the meal is welcome.

For information, contact organizer Terry Jackson at 812-358-2578 or [email protected].

In October, Jackson attended a Brownstown Town Council meeting and received permission to have a meeting at the center, which is in space owned by the town.

No one has used it as a place for seniors to gather and socialize since the COVID-19 pandemic started.

Jackson told the council it will take a lot of volunteers to run the center, and the idea is to have it open in the morning and stay open through lunch and into the early afternoon Monday through Friday. It also might be open on weekday evenings.
