Lost hunters found safe Friday night


Two hikers lost in the Norman area on Friday night were found safe and sound, police report.

The two men, who reported being lost at 7:02 p.m., were located by using cellphone pings, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.

The men were escorted to County Road 1070N, where they were checked by medical personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services, and then released at 10:54 p.m. Friday.

The incident was initially investigated by county officers Cy Moss and Alan Jones and personnel with the Owen Township Fire Department who responded to the 14000 block of West County Road 1070N. Conservation officers with the the South Region of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division also were involved in the search.
