Linda McCoy

SEYMOUR

Linda Bollinger McCoy passed away at the age of 81 on October 26, 2021. Linda was born on February 3, 1940 to Don Mills and Emmylou Groub Bollinger in Seymour, Indiana. She graduated from Seymour Shields High School in 1958, where she worked as a lifeguard and taught swim lessons and water ballet. Her love for swimming carried her to Gulf Park College in Gulf Port, Mississippi. There, she continued synchronized swimming and was a part of the team that performed locally. In 1960, she graduated from Gulf Park and continued her education at DePauw University, where she continued synchronized swimming and had the lead in the senior production. At DePauw, Linda was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Linda graduated from DePauw as an Art major in 1962. She continued her love for art in many ways throughout the rest of her life.

After graduating from DePauw, Linda moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she worked in Merchandising at Marshal Fields.

During her time at DePauw, Linda met the love of her life, Jim McCoy, whom she married on August 17th, 1963. They lived together in Bloomington, Indiana, where Jim was working on his Masters in Business and Linda worked as a dental assistant. In 1964 the couple moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where Jim began work at Kaiser Aluminum. Here, their first daughter, Erin, was born in 1965. In 1966, Jim and Linda returned to Seymour, Indiana. Here, in 1968, their second daughter, Erika, was born. In 1970, their youngest, Elizabeth, was born.

A lifelong sports-lover and dedicated Hoosier fan, Linda held season tickets to Indiana University football and basketball games, which she and her family have thoroughly enjoyed. Linda and Jim were the number one fans of their children and grandchildren’s many athletic activities throughout the years.

When their daughters began college and moved away from home, Linda and Jim began to travel extensively. They visited at least 48 countries together over the course of their lives. Twice, they brought their entire family along, including their eight grandkids. These trips to the Gal?pagos Islands and South Africa were remembered especially fondly by Linda.

Spending time with the family that Linda and Jim built together was one of the great joys of her life. She was visited often by her daughters and grandkids, who adoringly called her “Mimi.” Over the summers, they were brought together to play in the pool in her backyard. In the winters they loved to visit Sanibel Island, playing on the beach by day and playing cards with their Mimi in the evening (Linda never held back, and as such almost always won these games). They spent every Christmas and New Years Days, and countless Thanksgivings together.

Linda strongly believed in giving back and was a generous donor to many philanthropies. She was one of the most caring, beautiful, and kind souls and she will be dearly missed.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Jim McCoy. She is survived by her brother, Tom (Dana) Bollinger, her sister, Barbara Flaherty (Bud); her daughters Erin Royalty (Marshall), Erika McCoy (Jim House), Libby McCarty (Robert); her eight grandchildren, Drew Royalty (Leanna), Maggie Royalty, Kailey Robinson, Mallory Jacob (Dylan), Thomas Robinson, Samantha McCarty, Abigail McCarty, and Alec McCarty; Great Grandchildren Kipton, Lincoln, Rylee Royalty, and many nieces and nephews.
