Owls win 13th straight
The Seymour volleyball team continued its hot streak on Thursday night defeating New Albany on the road in three sets 25-20, 25-16, 25-19.
It marks Seymour’s 13th win in a row.
Olivia Fish led the team in kills with 14, Cali Cummings followed that with 6 and Journee Brown had 4. The Owls had 27 kills as a team.
Seymour served up 7 aces on Thursday with Fish having 3 and Breanna Lawrence contributing 1. Paige Lawrence had 17 digs and Addi Lemon had 25 assists.
The Owls’ JV team also came away with a victory over the Bulldogs 25-8, 25-18.
The JV team is 13-7 on the season while the varsity is 22-4 and will play at Brownstown Central next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
Boys soccer
Seymour outlasts Jennings County
Seymour’s boys soccer team escaped with a 1-0 victory over a defensive-minded Jennings County on Thursday night.
The Owls’ goal came with just 14:42 left in the game. In the melee following a corner kick by Gabe Baker, Donovyn Thomas headed the ball toward the goal while being challenged by JC goalie Carson McNulty.
Thomas’ shot bounced off a Jennings defender and into the net for the game’s only score. S
eymour enjoyed a healthy advantage in possession and outshot the Panthers 9-2. The Owls improved to 7-4-2 on the season and 3-2 in the Hoosier Hills Conference.
Seymour has a week off before hosting Bedford North Lawrence next Thursday.
