The Seymour volleyball team went 4-0 over the weekend competing in the Franklin Invite.
The Owls defeated Secenia 25-11, 25-12; Greenwood 25-16, 25-23; Franklin 25-23, 25-16; and Bishop Chatard 25-15, 14-25, 16-14.
By sweeping the competition, Seymour won the Franklin Invite.
Across the four games, Olivia Fish led the team with 40 kills, Cali Cummings had 17 and Journee Brown had 12. Collectively, Seymour was 234-264 with 94 kills.
Breanna Lawrence was 45-47 with 3 aces, Fish was 33-33 with 6 aces and Addi Lemon was 30-30 with 3 aces. As a team, Seymour served 187-196 with 15 aces.
Lemon had 73 assists and Fish had 40 digs.
Seymour is now 20-4 on the season and will play Silver Creek at home on Tuesday with freshmen match at 5:30, JV at 6:30 and varsity at 7:30.
Brownstown competes at New Albany
The Brownstown volleyball team was up against some stiff competition on Saturday in the New Albany Invite.
The Braves suffered losses to Columbus North 25-19, 25-25; Castle 12-25, 20-25; and Floyd Central 15-25, 17-25.
Brownstown’s win came against Jeffersonville 25-14, 25-18.
In the win, Kelsey Wischmeier led the way in hitting for Brownstown going 18-20 with 9 kills. Kalee Borden was 16-19 with 7 kills and Reagan Nuss was 6-7 with 4 kills.
In serving, Nuss was 10-10 with 3 aces, Rylee May was 8-9 with 1 ace and Erin Singleton went 7-7 despite having zero aces.
Brownstown will be back in action on Tuesday at Austin at 6 p.m.
Crothersville drops matches at Henryville
The Crothersville volleyball team competed in the Henryville Invite on Saturday and suffered three losses.
The Tigers lost to Henryville 25-23, 25-11; Southwestern 25-18, 25-12; and Lanesville 25-14, 25-13.
Crothersville will host Jac-Cen-Del tonight at 6 p.m.
Tennis
Braves placed second at Scottsburg Invite
The Brownstown boys tennis team competed in the Scottsburg Invite on Saturday and placed second out of eight teams.
The Braves accumulated 35 total points throughout the invite and fell just short of placing first over Austin, which had 38 points.
Ethan Davis played at one singles for the Braves, Pierson Wheeler was at two, Smith Hackman at 3, Connor Gwin and Bryce Reaser were at one doubles and Grant Elliott and Ethan Garland played at two doubles.
Those seven players accumulated enough wins throughout the invite to give Brownstown the 35 points to place second.
Brownstown will play again today at Charlestown at 5 p.m.
Cross-county
Seymour, Brownstown, Trinity Lutheran race at Jennings County
The Seymour, Brownstown Central and Trinity Lutheran cross-country teams all competed in the Ray Gerkin Invitational on Saturday at Jennings County.
The Seymour girls team won the invite with a team score of 45, edging out second-place Columbus East with a 46.
Vivienne Siefker won the girls race with a time of 19:32.60 and Hayley Harpe was third with a time of 20:38.75. Kinsley Folsom was sixth (21:03.51), Audrey Newkirk 15th (22:39.33), Ava Sunbury 28th (23:58.45), Grace Lewis 32nd (24:32.84.) and Emilee East 34th (24:45.67).
Brownstown placed seventh as a team with a score of 154.
Leading the way for the Braves was Paige McKain in 10th place with a 22:03.06. Maddy Schepman was 43rd (25:48.00), Tori Lokey 55th (27:20.83), Madison Stuckwisch 61st (28:53.71), Claire Schepman 62nd (28:56.87), Kaitlyn McCormick 66th (30:07.20) and Camryn Thompson 70th (30:57.14).
Cheyenne Campbell and Jocelyn Love raced for Trinity Lutheran. Campbell was 31st with a time of 24:21.78 and Love was 35th with a time of 24:52.91.
As for the boys, Seymour was fourth with a score of 94.
Jude Bane was second overall with a time of 16:36.96 and Michael Proffer was sixth with a 17:07.45. Ty Tormoehlen was 20th (18:10.01), Sam Rockey 23rd (18:26.04), Wes Proffer 50th (19:30.95), Carter Murphy 65th (19:54.90) and Will Proffer 68th (19:57.62).
Brownstown boys placed eighth with a team score of 209.
Garrett Driver was 35th with a time of 18:56.43, Chance Ratliff 38th (19:03.19), Cameron Day 44th (19:23.30), Shane Ratliff 51st (19:31.50), Waylon Lutes 59th (19:42.58), Dylan Wischmeier 62nd (19:50.22) and Traven Wellman 63rd (19:51.43).
Seymour and Trinity will be racing in the Silver Creek Invite on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
Crothersville competes in Crawford County Invite
The Crothersville cross-country team was at Crawford County Saturday.
It was split into two races. They raced all 9th and 10th graders first then the 11th and 12th graders.
In the boys race, Dirk Crater had a 8th place freshman finish, 17th best in his 9th-10th grade race and 38th out of all runners with a time of 20:14.14 Andrew Stainbrook finished last in the junior race at 32st place, was last in the 11-12 grade race at 64th place and finished last at 129 out of all runners with a time of 30:41.76
In the girls race, Kaylyn Holman was 1st place out of all the seniors, was the 3rd best in the 11-12 grade race and was 5th out of all runners with a time of 21:01.54.
Ella Plasse was 2nd out of all seniors, was 7th place in the 11-12 grade race and 17th out of all runners with a time of 22:38.54.
Kiarra Lakins was 16th out of all seniors, was 38th place in the 11-12 grade race and was 79th out of all runners with a time of 28:27.35.
The Tigers will be in the Paoli Invite on Thursday at 5 p.m.
