Boys soccer

Seymour defeats Oldenburg

Seymour scored twice in a two-minute stretch early in the second half to defeat Oldenburg Academy 2-0 at home on Saturday.

Gabe Baker knocked in a penalty shot after an Oldenburg handball in the sixth minute of the second half. Donovyn Thomas followed less than two minutes later when he put in a rebound following a corner kick.

The Owls controlled the game throughout and never allowed Oldenburg a shot on goal. Meanwhile the Owls had 16 shots (Thomas 5, Baker 3, Oliver Kardos 2, Will Cottrill, Casey Regruth, Mauricio Aragon, Kevin Cervantes, David Polbito, Alfredo Gaspar).

Seymour has won four of its last six games (4-1-1) and heads into an conference match at Floyd Central on Tuesday. The Owls’ overall record is now 5-2-2.

Girls soccer

Seymour defeats Silver Creek

The Seymour girls soccer team rebounded in a big way on Saturday and defeated Silver Creek 2-1 on the road.

Scoring goals for the Owls were Haley Westfall and Camryn Sterling.

Seymour is now 4-5-1 and 1-0-1 in the HHC with a home match coming up on Tuesday against Floyd Central.

Volleyball

Seymour goes 3-0 at Connersville

The Seymour varsity volleyball team won all three matches Saturday in the Connersville Invite.

The Owls defeated Rising Sun 25-11, 25-13; Pike 15-25, 25-14, 15-12; and Connersville 25-11, 25-16.

Olivia Fish led the Owls in three games with 37 kills, Cali Cummings had 24 and Breanna Lawrence had 9. Lawrence had 5 aces while Greer Henry had 4 and Addi Lemon had 2.

Lemon had 58 assists and Fish had 22 digs.

The Owls are 14-4 overall and will play at Hauser today at 6 p.m.

Trinity Lutheran wins two matches at BNL

The Trinity Lutheran volleyball team won two matches at the Bedford North Lawrence Invite on Saturday.

The Cougars defeated Terre Haute South 25-23, 25-21, 25-27, 26-24 and Evansville Mater Dei 25-17, 25-18, 18-25, 25-18.

Bailey Tabeling led the team with 39 kills, Ruthie Bingham had 36 and Carson Bowling had 20. Kamzi Gross had 5 aces and Tabeling had 4.

Gross had 52 digs, Stella Kleffman had 31 and Bingham had 30. Addison Darlage had 106 assists.

The Cougars are now 14-4 this season and plat at home against Madison on Monday.

Golf

Seymour places 8th at North Invite

The Seymour girls golf team placed 8th overall at the Bloomington North Invite on Saturday with a team score of 375. Floyd Central won with a 316.

Lainey Jackson led the way with a 90, Phoebe Skidmore shot a 92, Liza Stuckwisch shot a 95 and Katie Cottrill shot a 98.

The Owls will be competing in the Hoosier Hills Tournament this morning at 9 a.m. at Shadowood.

Crothersville splits matches Saturday

Crothersville split its two matches on Saturday morning.

The Tigers lost to Mitchell 6-25, 2-25 and then defeated Clarksville 25-14, 18-25, 15-6.

Against Mitchell, the Tigers were 13-13 in serving with Makenna Newberry going 4-4 and Karley Gillis going 3-3. The team was 14-26 with 4 kills as Pearl Shirley went 5-9 and Haley Williams 3-8 with 2 kills.

Against Clarksville, the Tigers were 41-52 with 7 aces. Shirley was 12-12 with 3 aces and Newberry was 14-14 with 1 ace. The team was 36-48 with 9 kills, led by Kennadi Lakins with 4 kills and Shirley had 1 kill.
