The Seymour Evening Lions Club sponsored its annual Lions Golf Scramble on Aug. 28 at Shadowood Golf Course in Seymour.

The scramble featured nine four-person teams competing on a perfect day for golf, according to a news release.

The team of Ruel West, Jan Graves, Jim Doolan and Kevin Hastings finished first, followed by the team of Reagan Eakins, Trevor Thompson, Brad Thompson and Ray Eakins.

There were three individual on-course events. Vic Thixton won the closest to the pin contest on the second hole, Josh Betts won the longest drive contest on Hole 8 and the putting green closest to the pin contest was captured by Kevin Campbell, who holed the putt.

Thirty eight businesses and organizations sponsored individual holes on the course at $100 each or $3,800 toward the total fundraising effort.

The funds support local Lions Club projects, which include the Boys and Girls Club of Seymour, Child Care Network, Community Provisions of Jackson County, Anchor House Family Assistance Center and Pantry, The Alley and others. The club also supports Lions of Indiana projects that help preserve sight and hearing and cancer research at Indiana University Health Indianapolis.

Lunch was served to all participants prior to the beginning of play. Plus, a number of local organizations donated door prizes, which were awarded when play was completed.

The club was chartered in 1925 and for 96 years has provided many services to the city of Seymour. The goal of the club is to continue to live up to their motto, “We Serve.”

Anyone interested in joining the Lions team and becoming part of a dynamic organization dedicated to serving the local community may contact any member for details.
