A 34-year-old Seymour woman died in a three-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in northern Jefferson County.

Emma K. Kiefer, who was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by Jason K. Mace, 39, also of Seymour, was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck on State Road 7 by an official with the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, according to a news release from Sgt. Stephen Wheeles with the Indiana State Police.

Mace was flown to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, said Wheeles, public information officer for the Versailles Post. Mace’s condition was not available Sunday.

The wreck was reported at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday and started with Mace losing control of the 1986 Honda motorcycle he was driving north on State Road 7 near the Jefferson County line with Jennings County, Wheeles said.

After Mace lost control of the motorcycle for an unknown reason, it overturned, throwing off both him and Kiefer, Wheeles said.

A northbound 2019 Nissan Rogue, driven by Danielle R. Newton, 29, of North Vernon, and a northbound 2019 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by Andrew J. Downs, 38, of North Vernon, both entered the crash scene. Neither Newton nor Downs was injured.

State Road 7 was closed for about five hours for cleanup and the investigation, led by an Indiana State Police crash reconstruction team. The investigation is ongoing.

Officers with the Jefferson County and Jennings County sheriff’s departments and medical personnel and firefighters with the Lovett and Dupont fire departments assisted at the scene.
