Immanuel welcomes 28 youth members

Twenty-eight eighth grade students publicly confirmed their faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour during a service May 2.

On April 25, each of the students took turns answering questions concerning the Christian faith.

At their confirmation, students pledged lifelong faithfulness to Christ. They received Holy Communion for the first time and also became voting members of the congregation. The families, sponsors, friends and church members also promised ongoing support.

The newly confirmed students wore robes and flowers and received certificates of confirmation and a special memento from the church in remembrance of this occasion.

A banquet in honor of the students was held April 25 in the Immanuel fellowship hall.

Preparation for confirmation involves several years of study of the Bible and its application to life, either as students at Immanuel Lutheran School or through Wednesday evening classes for middle school students. The students also took part in service projects.
