COLUMBUS
William E. Caplinger Sr., 83, of Columbus, passed from this life at 11:02 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mr. Caplinger was born September 23, 1937, in Ripley County, the son of Emmett W. and Hettie B. Miles Caplinger.
William married Judith K. Hall June 17, 1958, she preceded him in death October 27, 2010. He later married Beverly Tremain Smith July 25, 2015.
He retired from Reliance Electric after 35 years of service and was a member of First Church of The Nazarene and attended Flintwood Wesleyan Church.
He was a former Sunday school teacher, church bus driver and Little League Baseball Coach.
He was a former member of the American Legion, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and 11th Airborne Association.
He enjoyed playing on a travel softball team and was a U.S. Army Veteran.
Survivors include his second wife, Beverly; children, Kimberly J. (Adrian) Barton of Cave City, KY, Cynthia K. Hobson of Columbus and Christi A. (Bryan) Barwick of Columbus; step-children, Phillip Allen (Robin) Smith, Shauna (Tim) Brown and Tonya (David) Harden all of Nashville, IN; 11 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren and 1 step-great-great-grandson and a brother, Larry (Jan) Caplinger of Seymour.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; son, William E. Caplinger Jr. a grandson; two brothers; a sister and two stepsons.
The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Wes Jones officiating.
Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to time of service Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
