Selfless

Thumbs up to Gabriel Poole. The Seymour teen, who turned 14 on July 31, recently decided to donate everything he received for his birthday to Anchor House, a nonprofit organization that helps homeless families and individuals and offers a food pantry for those in need. A related thumbs up to everyone who donated to Poole’s effort, which led him to purchase $300 worth of hygiene products and food for Anchor House and school supplies for kids.

Distinguished

Thumbs up to Trinity Lutheran High School senior Sarah Lemming, who was named the 2022 Jackson County Distinguished Young Woman on Saturday night, and to the other 12 young women who competed in the annual event at Brownstown Central High School. A related thumbs up to the businesses, organizations, industries and individuals who donate scholarship money to the program, which distributed $13,500 in scholarships to the young women this year. Donations are always being accepted so more scholarship money can be presented to the winners. Checks may be mailed to DYW, P.O. Box 2, Seymour, IN 47274.

Award winning

Thumbs up to Andi Pollert of Seymour, who recently was announced as one of the winners of the 2021 Indiana Agriculture photo contest. Her photo of a 4-H’er with her pig will be displayed in Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch’s Family of Business office in Indianapolis.

Marksmanship

Thumbs up to Jeannie Redicker of Vallonia for winning two classes at the recent National Rimfire Sporter Match at Camp Perry, Ohio. The match, part of the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s National Matches, was fired July 25 on Camp Perry’s Viale Range in Ohio.
