Staff Report

Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour will honor Matt Nieman, who began serving as its youth minister in 1996 and continues in that role today.

On Sunday, he will be recognized during the 9 a.m. service and at a reception in his honor afterwards in the fellowship hall of the church, 605 S. Walnut St., Seymour. All are welcome to attend.

The son of Bud and Joyce Nieman of Seymour, Matt was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel and is an alumnus of Immanuel Lutheran School.

He was active in youth ministry in his high school years. He served nine years on the staff of Camp Lakeview, worked as an on-air correspondent for a local cable television station and previously served at Grace Lutheran in High Point, North Carolina, and St. Paul Lutheran in Fort Wayne.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in clinical psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in speech communication from Ball State University and a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Concordia University Chicago (River Forest).

In addition to his work with youth in the community, Nieman loves photography, running, workouts and his pets.

He is actively involved in local theater productions and often finds himself paired with a local “star” for performances in Dancing with the Stars competitions in Seymour and Columbus.

A favorite Bible verse of Nieman’s is John 3:30: “He must become greater, I must become less.”
