Sen. Braun visits Decatur Plastics in North Vernon

Sen. Mike Braun, R-Indiana, visited Decatur Plastic Products in North Vernon on the morning of June 29.

Since he has assumed office, Braun has fulfilled his pledge to visit each of Indiana’s 92 counties at least once per year to “hear the voice of the people”.

“As a lifelong businessman, I understand how important it is to hear directly from small businesses like Decatur Plastics and their employees so I can amplify their voices and concerns in Washington D.C.,” Braun said.

After 37 years as a successful businessman and leader of Jasper-based Meyer Distributing, Braun was elected as a senator in November of 2018.

During comments made before DPP staff, employees and invited guests, Braun commented he chose the business as the site to visit in Jennings County because it was a family-based business much like his own business operated by his sons in Jasper. Braun’s company, which employs 1,200, is a national leader in logistics and the distribution of auto parts and aftermarket accessories.

DPP is a manufacturer of engineered plastic parts, flocked parts and related tooling for automotive interiors and consumer markets.

Both companies lead with programs dedicated to community service. While serving as CEO of Meyer, Braun served on the local school board and also as a state representative before being elected to the Senate. DPP has been recognized for serving several community organizations in Jennings County as well as funding privation addiction recovery efforts and employment of inmates at the Jennings County Jail.

The chairman of the board and principal owner of DPP and Ningbo Global Sourcing, LLC, Gary Riley, Sr. said, “I could not be prouder that Senator Braun chose us to visit during his trip in Jennings county. Serving the community here is very important to us.”

Riley’s sons: DPP President Robert Riley and Vice President of Supply Chain Management Gary Riley, Jr. were also present for Braun’s visit.

The Rileys and Braun participated in a private half-hour long meeting prior to Braun’s comments to staff members and guests.

“Decatur Plastics is a major employer for Hoosiers in this local community, it’s great to see the work they are doing and to hear from them directly,” Braun said.

Braun also commented that he had made the commitment that he would only hold his Senate seat for two Senate terms and said, “I intend to honor that commitment.” He added that he hoped other leaders in the business community would step up and and take a turn to insure realistic representation of the needs of businesses are heard in the Senate in the future.
