Block party to benefit local Special Olympics

The public is invited to a block party from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 30 at Seymour Place, 2288 Nicholas Court, Seymour.

The assisted living community will have a cookout for a freewill donation and a raffle, and all proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Indiana Jackson County, a nonprofit organization that provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities ages 8 and up.

SouthernCare Hospice, Just Friends Adult Day Services, Premier Hospice and Angels of Mercy HomeCare all will have raffles at their booths benefiting Special Olympics, too.

Tickets for the raffles will be $1 for one and $5 for six.

Special Olympics also will have a booth selling T-shirts and hats and offering an activity and information about the program, and there will be Paparazzi Jewelry, tie-dye T-shirt and insurance vendors. Also, Kovener’s Korner will have its ice cream truck there from noon to 2 p.m.

For the kids, Seymour Place will have karaoke and a duck pond. Plus, there will be lemon shake-ups during the cookout.
