What’s the name of the book and author you are recommending?

“Foxheart” by Claire Legrand (5.5 reading level/13 AR points)

What made you want to pick up this book in the first place?

The art on the cover of the book caught my attention first, and then the title drew me in after.

Once you got into the book, what made you want to keep reading it?

It was exciting. You have a girl who has always been different heading off on a journey with two people she just met and finding herself in exceedingly more and more ridiculous situations. Oh and she finds she is the only one who is able to save magic.

Once you finished the book, what did you like about it?

I really enjoyed the main character development. You get to go on this journey with a broken and abandoned girl who has built walls around herself and see her blossom and accept love and friendship that she hadn’t allowed herself before. She has a strong sense of self and will to go along with it. To top it off, she has a great moral compass even though she very much wants to deny it.

What is the book about?

The book opens to a girl who has no name, or rather she is the only one who knows it, that is abandoned on the steps of a convent and raised with other orphan children. She is like none of the other girls, frequently getting picked on as well as getting in trouble for the shenanigans she gets herself into. She dubs herself Quicksilver, the greatest thief in the Starlands, her only companion a dog she names Fox. She and Fox find themselves on a journey with two people who teach her what it is to love and belong, all while saving the world of magic.

Why would you recommend this book to others?

The story is fun. It has relatable feelings and emotions but works through them with a great storyline. You have a girl who wants nothing more than to find her parents, who she is sure are fighting alongside the wolf king and that is their reasoning for leaving her. Upon deciding to become a thief, she meets a boy who in a whirlwind of chaos becomes a close companion, finds herself quite literally and has to confront unwanted emotions, death, that some things in life will never be answered and holding people dear while can be quite painful makes life a bit easier.
