Alex Rust Regatta set for Saturday at Lake Onyx

0

The Alex Rust Regatta is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Lake Onyx at 6201 E. County Road 525N, Seymour.

The regatta is a pirate themed fundraising event to inspire a fun and safe adventure in honor of Capt. Alex Rust, according to a news release.

Rust was born and raised in Seymour. He died unexpectedly May 28, 2013, in India of complications from typhoid fever. He was 28.

All proceeds will go to support scholarship funds for high potential students in northeastern India. The first 50 to register will receive a free event T-shirt.

The event will feature three races:

  • Paddle for those with kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, canoes and anything else that requires the racer to paddle.
  • Sailing limited to dinghy sailboats less than 18 feet because of the size of the lake.
  • BYOB or Build Your Own Boat (prizes awarded to the most creative and best functioning).

Each participant must have their own personal flotation device and must attend the mandatory skipper meeting.
