A motorist who crashed his vehicle wound up in jail on drug charges, police report.

Travis Justin McDonald, 33, of Scottsburg faces charges of possession of a narcotic and possession of a syringe, both Level 6 felonies, according to a news release from Crothersville Police Department Assistant Chief Jonathon Tabor.

Around 8 p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to a report of a vehicle on its side with entrapment on South County Road 1025E near East County Road 700S in Crothersville.

When Tabor and Reserve Officer Mike Weiler responded to the scene, they learned the driver, later identified as McDonald, was able to exit the vehicle through the sunroof and did not receive any injuries.

While interviewing McDonald, police found he had fresh blood on his arm above the elbow, and an uncapped loaded syringe was located in the vehicle that later tested positive for an illegal narcotic, Tabor said. Weiler also located additional narcotics in McDonald’s wallet.

McDonald was checked by Jackson County Emergency Medical Services personnel and refused medical treatment, Tabor said.

He was then transported to the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown, where he’s being held without bond.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Department Officer Kevin Settle assisted at the scene.
