The Seymour Unified track and field team is state bound after a fourth-place finish at regional on Saturday.
The Owls put up a total of 93 team points at Bloomington High School North, finishing just behind Boonville (96), Bloomington North (116) and Jennings County (143).
Finishing behind Seymour were Bedford North Lawrence (92), Avon (89), Bloomington South (80), Perry Meridian (76), Evansville North (70), Greenwood (69), Brownsburg (68) and Franklin (65).
The 4×100 team of Lauren Knieriem, Carly Kaiser, Anne Lenart and Angelina Ortiz won their section to get 10 points for the Owls, running a 1:14.58.
In the boys’ 4×1, the team of Carter Hendrix, Eric Juarez Zarate, Kevin Robb and Levi Croquart placed fifth in their section with a time of 54.77.
In the 100-meter dash, Hendrix was eighth in his section, running a 13.14. Elijah Osborne was fourth in his section with a 13.59, Jose Rodriguez was fourth (15.40) and Keara Riley was fourth (24.64).
Croquart and Osborne finished sixth and seventh in the 400-meter dash, running a 1:04.06 and 1:04.10, respectively. A.J. Engel placed fourth in his heat with a 1:15.98, and Caleb VonDielingen won his section with a 1:38.95.
In the field events, Ryan Elmore jumped a 14’9.75″ in the long jump and placed seventh in his section, and VonDielingen won his section with a jump of 7’4.25″. Lenart placed fifth in the same heat as VonDielingen with a jump of 5’6″.
In the shot put, Elmore threw a 38’5″ and placed fifth in his section. David Engel and Rodriguez went 2-3 in their section with throws of 28’9″ and 28’3.75″, respectively. Juarez Zarate threw a 8’7.25″ to finish sixth in his section.
After the impressive performance, the Owls will be competing in the state finals on Saturday, June 5, at Ben Davis High School. The meet will begin at 11:30 a.m., and the list of events is as followed: Long jump and shot put (30 minutes prior to running events), 100-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 400-meter girls relay and 400-meter boys relay.
