Outstanding senior athletes were announced and members of the track and field and baseball teams were honored when Crothersville High School held its spring sports awards program Monday night in the main gymnasium.

Also, Donald “Duck” Engle and David Schill were inducted into the high school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

Addy Cole received the coaches/principal award, and Grace Wilson and David Rose were named the outstanding senior athletes.

“The (coaches/principal) award is voted on by the varsity coaches and administration personnel,” CHS Athletic Director Jacob Dunn said. “It should be voted according to sportsmanship, coachability and the individual’s ability to be a good teammate.”

Cole suffered a knee injury in the summer of 2020 and missed the volleyball season last fall but was able to play the last half of the basketball season and earned all-Jackson County honors.

She plans to play basketball at Earlham College in Richmond.

The senior award is presented to the top two athletes in the senior class, either boy or girl, that have been nominated by the athletic council.

Wilson ran cross-country and played basketball, and Rose ran cross country and track.

“This athlete must have obtained at least six varsity letters in a minimum of two sports and accumulate at least 600 points by the above standards,” Dunn said.

Marc Bowman, coach of the CHS girls track team, introduced members of his team and announced Kaylyn Holman as the most outstanding runner, Kennadi Lakins most outstanding field events participant, Ella Plasse most improved and Morgan Womack as recipient of the mental attitude award.

Bowman said the girls had a record of 11-5 and placed second in the Southern Athletic Conference meet.

Holman and Lakins participated in the Bloomington North Regional on Tuesday night.

Rose was named most outstanding runner for the boys track team, and coach Carl Bowman said Rose also was named most valuable runner in cross country.

Tim Hodge was named outstanding field events person and Elijah Plasse received the mental attitude award for the boys.

Baseball coach Eric Hilton introduced members of the Tigers baseball team and announced Lucas Hilton as most valuable player and recipient of the batting award. Matt Clouse received the pitching award, and Kate Frazier received the mental attitude award.

Coach Hilton said the baseball team was made up of two seniors and two juniors and the remainder of the squad were freshmen and sophomores.

Frazier and Olivia Robinson were the seniors on the baseball team.

Middle school track coaches Matt Otte and Noah Hoskins introduced members of their team and presented special awards.

Otte introduced the middle school boys and presented the most outstanding runner and field events award to Corey Kelshaw and announced Dirk Crater as the most outstanding athlete.

Hoskins introduced the girls and announced Zoey Prince as the most outstanding runner, Hayden Pilgrim as the most outstanding field event person and Kendra Kelshaw as the most improved athlete.
