North Vernon police arrested a Johnson County man on an auto theft charge after a car was reported missing Tuesday from Moir Apartments.

The arrest of Kenneth D. Sanders, 22, of Nineveh on a Level 6 felony charge of theft occurred after a woman reported her 2010 silver Hyundai was missing at 9:35 p.m.

Officer Adam Driver investigated that report, and officers located the vehicle parked at a residence in Hickory Manor trailer court at about 11:45 p.m., said Sgt. Andrew Richmond, North Vernon Police Department spokesman.

Driver was able to identify Sanders, who was believed to have recently moved to North Vernon, as a suspect in the theft, and he was arrested. The vehicle was returned to the owner.

A Level 6 felony is punishable by six months to two and a half years in prison upon conviction.
