A chicken barbecue is set for May 8 in the parking lot at Beck’s Mill, 4433 S. Beck’s Mill Road, Salem.

Dinners, which will include two sides and cost $8, will be ready starting around 11 a.m. Proceeds benefit the mill and the Mount Carmel Cemetery fund.

Jim Woodward and Lewie Courtney will be grilling the chicken.

The event is keeping a Beck’s Mill tradition going, as Essie Beck Allen was known for serving chicken dinners in the early 1900s at the mill when it became a tourist attraction.

The mill also will be open for tours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 8 and from 1 to 4 p.m. May 9.
