Claude William “Bill” Sciarra 86, of Seymour passed away April 17, 2021 at Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana in Columbus. Claude was born to the late Loretta Willey Sciarra and Claude C. Sciarra in 1935.

On May 23, 1973 he married Jackie Necaise she survives. Bill was a lifetime member of St. Ambrose Catholic church and a 1953 graduate of Shields High School. He attended both Notre Dame and Hanover College before joining the Marine Corps.

Bill retired from Seymour Community Schools as head custodian of athletic grounds and facilities. Bill also installed TV Antenna’s through his own company, Sciarra’s Antenna Service, in which he serviced the greater Jackson County Area. Bill was a lifetime member of The Knights of Columbus as a Fourth Degree member. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #655. Bill was also a member of the American Legion Post #89 and VFW Post #1925. Bill’s favorite hobby was to video tape Sunday Mass Services at St. Ambrose to be distributed to shut-ins: to some, Bill was known as the “Video Man.” Bill always had a camera or video camera in his hand at any event or family function.

Bill was better known to his family as Grandpa and Papaw and was known for all kinds of card and magic tricks that he loved sharing and teaching his grandchildren. He enjoyed hosting family and friend gatherings around the pool and at the barn; These events included block parties, HOBO parties, Cajun Dinners, and most importantly: Grandpa’s Famous Spaghetti Dinners.

Claude is survived by his wife Jackie and two daughters; Lisa (Brian) Anderson and Jill (Eric) Varnado, 14 grandchildren; Tyler Anderson, Miranda (Cameron Beach) Schultheis, Xavier Varnado, Thomas Varnado, Emily (Dominick) Martin, Garrett Dixon, Matt Anderson, Julia Varnado, Jack Varnado, Jude Varnado, Quentin Varnado, Titus Varnado, Matt Varnado, and Erin Varnado, three great-grandchildren; Turner Schultheis, Parker Schultheis, and Samuel Martin; sister Peggy (Bob) McClure.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral mass will be conducted by Voss and Sons Funeral Service on Friday April 23, 2021 at 10 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic church with Father Dan Staublin officiating and assisted by Deacon Mike East. Burial will follow at St. Ambrose Catholic cemetery.

Friends may call at Voss and Sons Funeral Home on Thursday April 22, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. A Rosary prayer service will be conducted on Thursday April 22, 2021 at 3:30 p.m.
