Seymour track and field sweeps Madison

It was a cold and windy night in Seymour on Tuesday night as the boys and girls track team competed against Madison. Despite the imperfect conditions, both teams were able to come away with victories.

The boys team won 91-39.

“Very proud of the boys,” head coach Randy Fife said. “With these dual meets, there’s not a lot of athletes in each race, so it’s easy to lose focus, and I thought our kids maintained their focus.”

Senior Brandon Kleber had solid performances in the 1600 and 3200, running a 4:49 and 10:17, respectively. Kleber’s goal for this season is to get sub-4:40 in the mile and sub-10 in the two mile.

“He did that on his own for the most part,” Fife said. “There was a lot of wind, too.”

Another impressive performance on the night came from senior Chandler Drummond, who took home first place in three separate events.

He won the pole vault, which is his top event, at 9’6”, and then Fife had him practice long jump this week, and he competed in it on Tuesday and took home first place with a jump of 18’7”.

Drummond also placed second in the 110 high hurdles with a 16.88, as his teammate Josh Pennington took first place with a 15.72.

“Chandler Drummond had a good day,” Fife said.

As for the girls, they defeated Madison by a score of 80-48.

Lara Skaggs won the 100 high hurdles with a time of 17.00, and she also won the pole vault at 7’6”. Skaggs also won the high jump as well.
