NORTH VERNON — North Vernon police officers are investigating a fatal accident at 11:15 p.m. Friday on Walnut Street.

A witness told police that a vehicle drifted across the roadway while traveling west on Walnut Street in downtown North Vernon and struck a utility pole and lighted clock, police said.

Officers arrived and found the driver awake however in medical distress. Paramedics
were quickly summoned to the scene. The driver was transported to the St. Vincent Jennings Hospital where she was pronounced dead soon after, police said.

At this time investigators believe the driver suffered a medical emergency which led
to the loss of control of the vehicle causing the crash. This medical emergency also led to the driver’s eventual death.

The driver’s identity is being with held until further family notifications can be made.
