Lara Skaggs won four events to spark the Seymour girls track and field team to a win over Jennings County and Bedford North Lawrence on Thurdsay night at Bulleit Stadium.

The Seymour girls had 95 points, Jennings 36 and BNL 30.

The Seymour boys won with 73.5 points, Jennings had 55 and BNL 35.5

Skaggs won the 100 hurdles in 16.8, the high jump at 4-8, the long jump at 15-7 and the pole vault at 8 feet.

“I was really happy to come out here and just compete after not being able to compete last year,” she said. “It feels really good to come back, and I’m almost back to where I was my sophomore year, so I’m pretty happy. I think I could have done better in my long jump and high jump. I didn’t have the best day there. I could have jumped higher, jumped longer.”

She qualified for regional in four events her sophomore year.

“Most meets, I’m running around like a crazy person,” Skaggs said. “I jump pole vault, I go to high jump and I’m all over. I’ve gotten really good at time management.”

Girls coach Spencer Sunbury said Skaggs is a hard worker and comes out and enjoys competing.

“She takes it serious, and it’s fun to watch a kid come out and put that much into it and get the rewards,” he said. “She’s always open to count on.”

Sunbury was pleased with his distance runners, as well.

“Brooke Trinkle had a good night. All the distance girls had good nights,” he said.

Trinkle won the mile and 800 and ran on the winning 3,200 and 1,600 relays.

Hayley Harpe won the 400, Jaidyn Nichols won the 300 hurdles, Vivienne Siefker won the 3,200 and the owls won all three relays.

Leading the boys was Reid Kruse with first-place finishes in the 100 and 200.

Josh Pennington won the 100 hurdles, Chandler Drummond won pole vault, Bryson Darlage tied for first in the long jump and Preston Applegate won the discus.

Boys coach Randy Fife said, “No ties tonight. When you win, it takes a lot of people. It was a good effort. We had a lot of PRs.”
