Seymour, Brownstown each capture softball victories

A critical fielding play that turned into a double-play and helped push Seymour to a 4-2 victory over Scottsburg on Thursday.

Some solid hitting supported the twosome of Kendrick Sterling and Stephanni Kleber splitting innings on the mound. Sterling pitched four innings, and Kleber came on and tossed the other three innings.

Kennedy Warner led the Owls at the plate by collecting three hits while scoring three runs.  The rest of the offense was diversified with Alyssa Perry, Grace Meyer, Sterling and sister Camryn Sterling each knocking in a single run.

Perry instigated a key double play from the outfield. She grabbed a fly ball for one out and threw to Matte Nicholson at second base, and she nabbed a runner who failed to return to the base on time and was doubled up.

Brownstown topples Hauser

The first five batters hit safely and the Brownstown Central softball team parlayed its fast start into an 11-6 victory over Hauser earlier this week.

The Braves banged out 17 hits with Erin Singleton going 4-for-5 with a double and Ally Reynolds smacked a home run as one of three hits and drove in three runs, giving Brownstown a fast start to the new season.

They were not the only big hitters in the lineup, however, with Kelsey Schneider cracking three hits and Rehgen Stuckwisch going 2-for-3 with two runs batted in.

Sophomore Rylin Huddleston was in command on the mound and got the win. She threw seven innings and gave up four runs.
