Staff Reports

The Brownstown Area Ministerial Association has announced plans for the week of Easter celebration.

Beginning March 29, there will be a daily Cross Walk through the community from noon each day until the destination of that day is completed. People will take turns carrying a large wooden cross, and a short devotion and prayer will mark the conclusion at each site. The whole event each day usually takes about 45 minutes to an hour.

The walk will begin March 29 at Brownstown Church of the Nazarene on Commerce Street and proceed to Brownstown United Methodist Church at the corner of Poplar and Walnut streets.

March 30 will begin at noon at the Methodist church and proceed to Brownstown Presbyterian Church just east of the high school. March 31 will start at the Presbyterian church and conclude at Brownstown Christian Church on West Spring Street.

April 1, the final day of the walk, will begin at the Christian church and conclude in front of the performance pavilion at Heritage Park on the north side of the Jackson County Courthouse.

On Good Friday, April 2, the community is invited to come together for a Good Friday worship service at Heritage Park at 6 p.m. It will be an outside event, so everyone is invited to bring a lawn chair. In the event of rain, the event will socially distance everyone on the pavilion.

BAMA is made up of all of the ministers of the local churches of Jackson County. Its primary function is maintaining a working relationship with all of the churches in the community. The secondary function is maintaining the community food pantry located at Brownstown Church of the Nazarene.

The group collects an offering at the Good Friday service as well as the community Thanksgiving service in November to help stock and maintain the grocery supply.

If churches or individuals are interested in making monetary donations, they may do so by writing a check payable to BAMA and sending it to Brownstown Church of the Nazarene, 616 W. Commerce St., Brownstown, IN 47220.

With the COVID-19 pandemic this past year, all activities such as the Cross Walk were suspended, but with the coming of the vaccines, organizers felt an outdoor worship experience was appropriate. It is requested that everyone maintain good health by use of masks and social distancing for each event.
