Food box distribution set in Crothersville

0

A Farmers to Families Food Box program distribution event is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the student parking lot at Crothersville High School, 109 N. Preston St., Crothersville.

It’s open to any household in Crothersville and Vernon Township. Each household will need to bring a piece of mail with their Crothersville or Vernon Township address on it. There are no income requirements.

Volunteers will be stationed handing out food. People should remain in their vehicles and start along East Main Street, turn left at the bus barn and continue on the north side of the student parking lot.

There will be 35-pound food boxes — including perishable and nonperishable food — available on a first-come, first-served basis. Do not line up until after 9:45 a.m.

Residents 65 and older or those with disabilities who would like to have a food box delivered should message the Town of Crothersville Facebook page or call or text 812-390-8217 and leave a message with your name, address and phone number.

Those interested in volunteering Saturday may call or text 812-390-8217 or send a message via facebook.com/townofcrothersville.

The effort is part of the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program that was announced April 17, 2020. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is exercising authority under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act to purchase and distribute agricultural products to those in need.
