Sharon Kay Hayes, 76, of Seymour, IN passed from this life on the morning of Friday March 19, 2021.

Born August 11, 1944, Sharon grew up in Columbus where she attended St. Peter’s Lutheran School and Columbus High School. Sharon married David R. Hayes of Clifford, IN on December 8, 1963, he survives.

Sharon grew up going to local race tracks with her father where she developed a love for racing, especially NASCAR. Having three sons, she was wholly devoted to her family. Sharon ensured that the Hayes household felt like home to everyone who entered it, especially the countless neighborhood kids and family friends who she fed and counseled without hesitation. She was the happiest when her home was the hub of activity, which it was for many years. Sharon enjoyed camping and rarely missed her grandchildren’s activities.

Sharon grew up, was married and raised her children while attending St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. She worked many years in the cafeteria at St. Peter’s Lutheran School. Sharon and David attended Faith Lutheran Church until her death.

Sharon was the daughter of the late John E. Armstrong and Carolyn Waldkoetter Armstrong. Other survivors include three sons: John Hayes of Tell City, IN, Craig (Shelba) Hayes of Seymour, IN and Alan (Melissa) Hayes of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Holden (Gabrianna) Hayes, Hunter Hayes, Allison Hayes, Molly Hayes, Sarah (Jon) Giddens and Lucas Hayes; great grandchildren, Arwen Hayes, Evren Hayes, Taven Newby; brother, Fred (Kathi) Armstrong, also of Columbus; sister, Becky (Richard) Robinson of Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and younger brother, Harold Armstrong.

The funeral service will be conducted Monday, March 22, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Todd Riordan officiating. Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service Monday at church. Due to pandemic restrictions, we ask that visitors follow social distancing guidelines once inside the church and masks are required.

Burial with be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church building fund or a charity of one’s choice.
