The Brownstown Speedway is set to begin its 2021 racing season tonight hosting the 24 th Annual Indiana Icebreaker. The racing program will consist of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, open wheel modifieds and pure stocks.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will make its 31st appearance at Brownstown with a full racing program consisting of hot laps, time trials, heat races, B-mains and the $15,000 to win main event.
Brandon Sheppard, last year’s top-ranked driver in dirt late model racing with 31 feature wins won the last Icebreaker race held two years ago, Last year’s event was cancelled.
Sheppard is expected to be among the strong contingent of drivers, joining Hudson O’Neal, Devin Moran, Tim McCreadie, Kyle Bronson, Ricky Thornton Jr., Mike Marlar, Josh Richards, Dennis Erb Jr., Darrell Lanigan, Tyler Erb, Brian Shirley, Dustin Linville, Jimmy Owens, Billy Moyer Jr., Chris Simpson, Earl Pearson Jr., and Stormy Scott.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series last competed in January and February with its Florida Speedweeks tour. So far in 2021 there have been eight different winners in the first nine races. Tyler Erb is the only driver to score more than one victory this year. Other winners this season include Kyle Larson, O’Neal, Richards, Scott, Brandon Overton, Thornton and Shane Clanton.
Defending Brownstown track champion Greg Johnson of Bedford will lead the always-tough regulars tonight, along with Bedford racers Jared Bailey and Britan Godsey. Shelby Miles of Bloomington and Devin Gilpin of Columbus.

Thornton wins Florence Spring 50
Ricky Thornton Jr. won the 45th Annual Spring 50 March 13 at the Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky. Thornton, the leading rookie drive in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, earned $10,00 for the vicotyr in the Todd and Vickie Burns-owned SSI Motorsports Team.
Bobby Pierce finished second ,followed by Jimmy Owens, Darrell Lanigan and Tyler Erb.
Completing the top 10 were Greg Johnson, Stormy Scott, Devin Gilpin, Mike Bores and Tristan Chamberlain.
Josh Dietz took the crate late model feature race. Zack Burton finished in second with Cody Sasher, Chad Fields and Jim Couch completing the top five.

Matt Bex took the bomber feature over Bubba Woods, Charlie Stevens Jr., Clifton Barron, and Robert Walters.
