Local youth invited to participate in art, singing contests

The Seymour Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925 Auxiliary is sponsoring two contests for local youth.

Students in kindergarten through eighth grade may enter their work in the Illustrating America art contest. Entries must be two-dimensional, drawn by the artist and submitted on paper or canvas and can use various media. Entries should be no smaller that 8×10 but no larger than 18×24 not including mat.

There are three divisions: First and second grades, third through fifth grades and sixth through eighth grades. It’s open to all students who are enrolled in a public, private, parochial or home study program.

Entries are due by March 31 to VFW Post 1925, Attention: Barb Barger, Auxiliary Chair, 301 N. Jackson Park Drive Seymour, IN 47274.

Local winners in all three divisions will advance to the state contest in April.

The other contest is for youth ages 6 to 16 who love to perform, sing and know the words to the national anthem.

In the inaugural year for the Get Excited for the Red, White and Blue solo singing contest, contestants must sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” word by word, but they are encouraged and motivated to sing it in whatever genre they choose and add their performance and technical video style.

A recording of their performance along with an official entry form must be submitted by March 31 to the same address listed above.

The winner will advance to the state contest in April.
