Paratrooper caught on light pole in Freeman Field

A paratrooper practicing jumps at Freeman Field on Tuesday afternoon landed on a car after his parachute became caught on a light pole in the parking lot of Valeo as he landed.

Seymour Police Department Officer Jeremy Helmsing reported the man was not injured in the incident, but Seymour Department of Public Works employees helped get the paratrooper down and remove the parachute from the light pole.

The vehicle only had a small boot scuff on the roof that can most likely be buffed out, Helmsing said.

The Indiana National Guard periodically conducts parachute training exercises at Freeman Field.
