High school state championships for track and field and softball will not be held at their traditional locations this spring, the Indiana High School Athletic Association announced Tuesday.

The governing body of Indiana high school sports is shopping for new venues to conclude the season for those two sports in June because Indiana University in Bloomington informed the group it cannot host the track competition with spectators due to the coronavirus.

Purdue University in West Lafayette made the same determination about the softball competition.

“The IHSAA understands and respects both universities’ decision and will begin looking for alternative host sites immediately,” a statement put out by the organization read. “The association looks forward to returning to those venues in the future.”

The track championships are scheduled for June 4 and 5, and the softball finals are scheduled for June 11 and 12.
