After a year of postponements, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour plans to reboot the celebration of its 150th anniversary beginning Sunday.

The Rev. Ryan Schneider, who grew up at Immanuel and is a graduate of Immanuel Lutheran School and Trinity Lutheran High School, will be the guest preacher at the 9 and 11:15 a.m. services. Special music will be provided by students of Immanuel Lutheran School, directed by Paul Scheiderer.

Schneider, the son of Gary and Leah Schneider, is married to Felicia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Rieckers. They have been blessed with a daughter, Elsie, and are expecting their second child.

Ryan graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne in 2017 and since then has served Grace Lutheran Church in Vine Grove, Kentucky, south of Louisville.

Immanuel was founded in February 1870. Seven additional special services are planned to take place this year that will draw attention to the anniversary theme, “Celebrating our Past, Embracing our Future,” based on Psalm 90:1, 16: “Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations … Let your work be shown to your servants and your glorious power to their children.”

An anniversary committee chaired by Craig and Linda Moore and Mark and Jane Nolting has planned and is coordinating the celebration.
