Girl Scout cookies have arrived in Jackson County.

If you didn’t order from a local Girl Scout, don’t worry.

You can buy your Tagalongs, Thin Mints, Samoas, Girl Scout S’mores, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, Toffee-Tastic and Lemon-Ups at booths set up at three local businesses.

That begins this weekend, including 11 to 7 p.m. today and Sunday at Walmart Supercenter, 1600 E. Tipton St., Seymour, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Bite the Bullet, 101 E. Second St., Seymour.

The booths will continue the next three weekends at Walmart and also from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 13 at Blush and Brush Beauty Bar, 115 W. Second St., Seymour.

Chealsy Parr, Troop 135 leader and Jackson County Girl Scouts service unit manager, said she’s glad to receive permission to do the booth sales this year considering the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“You may have already seen some girls out at Walmart, but with the restrictions, the girls will be a little less visible in the community,” she said. “We appreciate Walmart partnering with Girl Scouts once again and allowing booth sales because it really helps the girls reach their sales goals and promotes learning when it comes to business and social interactions.”

As expected, the restrictions of the pandemic have greatly altered the Girl Scout cookie season for 2021.

Parr said in 2020, Jackson County Girl Scouts sold 24,870 boxes of cookies. They were fortunate to escape the restrictions of the pandemic since it started at the end of their sales.

This year, though, local Girl Scouts have only sold 12,317 boxes of cookies to date.

“While there has been a huge difference in sales from last year to this year, we are still finding great success,” Parr said. “The girls have been required to think outside the box and revisit some of the principles in business basics, especially with how to reach the customers.”

The girls have been creative in making videos, creating promotional material, working with parents to capture social media audiences and more, she said.

“However, this has been a great opportunity to work with girls on phone etiquette and returning to the old-fashioned phone call that as a society we have outgrown over the years,” Parr said. “These girls are goal-getters and are using all the tools available to help them succeed.”

That includes use of their own digital cookie website that promotes online sales and delivery. Anyone looking to purchase cookies from one of the troops in Jackson County can visit gskentuckiana.org to find their cookie page.

Jackson County’s five troops have a total of 105 Girl Scouts.
