A vacuuming robot, cat and dog notecards and a portrait session with a local photographer are among the items in this year’s My Furry Valentine fundraiser.
The Humane Society of Jackson County conducts the annual silent auction in February, but this year, it’s different due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Instead of an in-person event, people can place bids online and have a week to do so.

Other items include a candle, a basket of bears, a Thirty-One backpack, Vera Bradley items, shirts, a scarf, Bob Poynter gift cards and more.
All proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of Jackson County, a private, nonprofit animal welfare organization that primarily serves the residents and animals of Jackson County through various programs.
The organization provides shelter and care to the stray animals picked up by Seymour’s animal control officer.
As space allows, it also provides shelter and care for cats and dogs in need of rehoming.
Plus, the local Humane Society helps reunite lost and found pets with their family.
Unclaimed stray and unwanted animals that find their way into the shelter are made available for adoption through an application process designed to match pets and families in such a way that both the pet and family are likely to experience a lifetime of love, healthiness and happiness with one another.
The rescue program saves the lives of many shelter pets that do not find a home locally. The shelter manager works with rescue groups all across Indiana and beyond.
Also, in coordination with other Jackson County animal welfare groups, The Big Fix of Jackson County works to reduce companion animal overpopulation through the promotion of spay/neuter programs. This program includes trap-neuter-return, spay/neuter assistance and transport efforts.
There also is the Share the Warmth Program. When available, the Humane Society recycles unwanted doghouses back into the community and provides straw in the winter.
The organization also operates a pet food pantry when food is available and provides suggestions regarding animal health and behavior.
