BROWNSTOWN

Brownstown Central Community School Corp. administrators announced the Students of the Month during Tuesday night’s board of school trustees meeting at the administration office.

Those recognized were kindergartner Riley Wilson, seventh-grader Asmara Estes and freshman Justin Green.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the students and their parents did not attend the meeting. Instead, principals read nomination letters as a picture of the student was displayed on a screen.

Wilson was chosen as Little Brave of the Month for respect by her teacher, Michelle Elliott.

“Riley is polite to teachers and other students,” Principal Chrystal Street said in sharing Elliott’s comments. “She says please and thank you and patiently waits her turn. Riley is always willing to help others. She helps pick up materials, helps other students to understand what they working on and reminds me nicely if she has forgotten something. All of Riley’s future teachers will be so lucky to have her in their class.”

Estes was selected by the seventh grade teachers for consistently modeling the school’s three R’s: Respect, responsibility and resourcefulness.

“She is respectful to her teachers and fellow classmates, both inside and outside the classroom,” Principal Doug McClure said in reading the teachers’ nomination letter. “Asmara’s teachers agree that she is a pleasure to have in class because she is pleasant, kind and helpful to others. If a student needs help with an assignment, she is always willing to assist.”

The teachers also said Estes demonstrates responsibility and maturity each day at school.

“She excels in the classroom by always participating in class, completing assigned work on time, studying for tests and asking questions when necessary,” the teachers wrote. “Asmara is a resourceful student who consistently finds a way to overcome any challenge she encounters. When given a new project or assignment, she is always willing to do her best and go above and beyond what is asked of her.”

In her spare time, Estes loves basketball, volleyball and singing.

“With her friendly personality, giving nature and unique sense of humor, Asmara has a bright future ahead of her,” her teachers said.

Green was chosen as Student of the Month by his teacher, Deb Schwartz.

“Justin always comes to school with a positive attitude,” Principal Joe Sheffer said in reading Schwartz’s comments. “Justin has a willingness to do his work and is very kind to others. He has adjusted well to high school life and is making friends. Congratulations to Justin on this outstanding accomplishment.”
