Brother and sister Jack and Katherine Benter from Brownstown Central were two of three Jackson County basketball players who were nominees for the Indiana high school player of the week.

Freshman Jack Benter was a boys District 3 nominee for the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association/Franciscan Health Sports Medicine recognition. Benter exploded for 40 points in a Braves victory over Corydon Central last Saturday.

En route to that total, Benter made a school record-tying 10 three-pointers.

The girls honorees represented the final week of regular-season play before sectionals began this week.

Senior Katherine Benter is averaging 20.6 points a game for the Braves going into their opening sectional game at 6 p.m. today versus Owen Valley in Edgewood. She was one of two local players nominated in District 3.

Trinity Lutheran star Sydney Jaynes, who has been nominated before, is averaging 19.2 points a game as the Cougars begin sectional play Friday night in Edinburgh against Shawe Memorial. Trinity (18-4) is the No. 1 ranked team in Class A.
