SCOTTSBURG

Mr. Wayne Alan Wilson, 79, passed away on Friday, January 29th, at home, in the arms of his loving wife. Wayne was born on June 6, 1941 in Seymour, Indiana to Harland O. Wilson and Zella Madge Wilson. He grew up in Crothersville and graduated from Crothersville High School in 1959. That same year, he and his friend Bill ‘Hick” Hickerson enlisted in the Navy together. He loved serving on the USS Independence Aircraft Carrier and maintained a life long friendship with one of his shipmates, Norman Wnuk, whom he credited with saving his life at least once. On October 23, 1971 while visiting his Grandmother, he met the love of his life and knew they were destined to be together for eternity. On November 24, 1978 in Jellico, Tennessee he married Barbara Curl Wilson and she survives in Scottsburg, Indiana. Wayne retired from Cummins Engine Co. in Columbus, Indiana as a Project Engineer in Research and Development in 1995 after 31 years. He was a 48 year 32nd degree Master Mason and a 43 year member of the Scottish Rite. Wayne enjoyed all things outdoors and loved spending time wandering in the woods. He was also a former Little League Coach and Boy Scout Leader in Crothersville, which included his own sons. Well known for his dry sense of humor and his “Wayneisms”, Wayne was kind, generous, loving and very protective of those he loved. He will be greatly missed. Wayne will be missed by his loving wife, Barbara Curl Wilson of Scottsburg, Indiana; his sons, David Wilson (Kari) of Arkansas, Travis Wilson (Tina) of Crothersville, Indiana, Chet Wilson (Renee) of Crothersville, Indiana; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one aunt, Jean Abner of Florida; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Harland O. Wilson, died March 5, 1991, his mother, Zella Madge Helmns Wilson, died April 4, 2013, his grandparent, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members. Private services will be conducted Monday, February 1, 2021, at 7:00 p.m., by Bro. Randy King at the Grandview Memorial Gardens Chapel, 9306 North US Highway 421 Madison, Indiana with military honors provided by the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion. Entombment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum,9306 North US 421 near Madison, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to Grandview Memorial Gardens Perpetual Care Fund.
