Three arrested after traffic stop

A traffic stop late Saturday evening in Brownstown led to the arrests of three people on weapon and drug-related charges, police report.

According to a news release from Sheriff Rick Meyer, county Officer Alan Jones stopped a Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Amanda Chambers, 44, at about 6:30 p.m. That vehicle had a false/fictitious registration.

During the stop, Jones reporting smelling burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle and seeing Chambers and passengers, Thomas Lee Wood, 22, of Nineveh and Thomas Wesley Cody, 62, of Linton moving around items inside the vehicle.

Jones then had the three get out of the car so it could be searched. During that search, police found illegal drugs, paraphernalia and guns, Meyer said.

One of the guns had been reported stolen in Terre Haute, he said.

All three were arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown on Saturday night.

All three face preliminary charges of possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm without a license and dealing in marijuana.

Wood also faces charges of possession of a firearm by a violent felon, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a stolen firearm/theft, violation of the Legend Drug Act and intimidation.

Cody also face a possession of a stolen firearm/theft, while Chambers faces charges for driving while suspended with a prior conviction.

Jones was assisted by county officers Aaron Wilkins and Brad Barker and Brownstown Officer Ryan Cherry.
