O’Reilly Auto Parts location planned in Brownstown

Jackson County appears to be well on its way to having a second O’Reilly Auto Parts store with a Brownstown location in mind.

Brewer Development Co. of Lexington, Kentucky, has started the process of constructing and opening the store at 701 W. Commerce St.

The 7,225-square-foot store would be built on a 0.54-acre site, according to a project construction design application filed Dec. 31, 2020, with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. The new store will employ eight people and could hold as many as 136 people at a time.

Tipton Street Properties LLC recently sold the property, which is zoned highway business district, to BMW ORLY LLC, Ashland, Kentucky, for $300,000.

Conner Barnette, the town’s building commissioner, said Eric Brewer of Brewer Development received a variance for a rear setback for the northwest corner of the building from the required 20 feet to 10 feet in October from the Brownstown Board of Zoning Appeals.

The department, however, cannot issue a building permit until the state approves the design, Barnette said.

The developer also will need to obtain approval from the Indiana Department of Transportation for an entrance/exit driveway off of U.S. 50 and approval from the town sanitary sewer department for a sewer tap.

Details about when construction will begin or when the store might open were not available.

The other O’Reilly Auto Parts store in Jackson County is located at 1111 E. Tipton St. in Seymour. It opened in January 2007.

O’Reilly Automotive Inc. is a specialty retailer of automotive aftermarket parts, tools, supplies, equipment and accessories in the United States and serves both the do-it-yourself and professional installer markets.
