County crosses 4,000 COVID-19 cases

The state announced Monday that 4,042 Jackson County residents have tested positive for COVID-19, an increase of 16 from Sunday’s total.

Saturday saw 31 Jackson County residents test positive for COVID-19 and 32 more Sunday.

The positivity rate for Jackson County is at 16%, a 1.4% increase from Sunday’s percentage. Friday and Saturday both had a positivity rate of 14.5%.

Jackson County is classified as a level 2.5 county, meaning an orange warning level for COVID-19 spread. An orange level county is classified between 10 and 14.9% with a red level being above 15%. An orange level county is classified as a 2, and a red level county is a 3. If a county’s positivity rate is close to a red level, it’s classified as 2.5.

Even though the county is above 15%, the Indiana State Department of Health still classifies it as orange. That’s because the color levels are updated each Wednesday.

Positivity rate also is determined by a seven-day moving average with a six-day lag. The reason for the lag is to give time to receive comprehensive results.

The current positivity rate for Jackson County would be for Dec. 29 to Jan 4.

No new deaths attributed to COVID-19 were reported in Jackson County on Monday or over the weekend, meaning the death toll remains at 45.

There have been 37,151 tests administered to 15,853 individuals in Jackson County since March 18, an increase of 114 from Sunday’s total.

The latest results were as of 11:59 p.m. Sunday. The ISDH’s coronavirus dashboard is updated at noon daily.

On Monday, 3,726 additional Hoosiers across the state of Indiana were diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at the ISDH, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and private laboratories.

This brings to 567,338 the total number of Hoosiers known to have had the novel coronavirus following corrections to the previous day’s total.

Indiana’s total number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 is 8,643 with 30 new deaths being reported Monday.

For the state, a total of 6,140,884 tests have been administered, an increase of 31,804 from Monday’s total.
