Uniform Commercial Code fees increase

With the start of the new year, the state of Indiana has announced updates to recording fees for Uniform Commercial Code filings.

The new fee schedule went into effect Jan. 1 and will reflect an increase from $10 to $25.

The fee change was prompted by a question posed by the State Board of Accounts to the Indiana Attorney General’s Office regarding contradictory parts of the law, indicating two different fees in different sections.

An advisory opinion was issued by Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill Jr. providing the UCC fee should follow code. As a result, the fees was updated to reflect current law.

The fee schedule effective Jan. 1 is:

  • Mortgages (including subordinate mortgages) and re-recorded mortgages, $55
  • Deeds and all other instruments, including UCC’s and re-recorded instruments (fee includes 1 oversize page), $25
  • Additional pages exceeding 8½-by-14 inches within any document, $5 each
  • Mechanic’s lienm including one mailout, $25
  • Each additional mailout, $2
  • For counties accepting multiple transaction documents, aka blanket documents, $25, plus $7 for each additional cross reference after the first
  • Copies 11-by-17 inches or smaller, $1 per page
  • Copies larger than 11-by-17 inches, $5 per page
  • Certification of document $5
