Ruth Irene Bowman Montgomery was born August 29, 1929 to Charles and Goldie Bowman in Reddington, Indiana. Irene was the third of ten children. She attended a two-room school at Reddington, grades 1-8 and graduated from Shields High School in 1947.

Irene met the love of her life, Tom Montgomery on a blind date. They married December 24, 1948. They were married 56 years until Tom’s death in 2004.

Irene worked at an insurance agency until the birth of her first child, Joyce, then remained at home raising two sons, Dan and Charles. She returned to work as an Abstractor for Haley and Farrow attorneys at law in order to help put all three children through college. She was a life-long member of Reddington Christian Church.

Irene entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on January 3, 2021 at age 91. She is survived by two sisters, Jenny Lutes and Shirley Sandefur, one brother, Jim Bowman, her children, Joyce (Larry) Musselman of Crawfordsville, Dan (Jane) Montgomery of Westfield and Charles (Roberta) Montgomery of Seymour. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 6 siblings and 1 great-grandchild.

Friends may visit with Irene’s family from 12:00 to 2:00 PM with the service being held at 2 PM Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Reddington Christian Church, 10516 US-31, Seymour, IN 47274 with Pastor Scott Brown officiating. Face masks will be required at the church and social distancing will be practiced. Memorials may be made through Burkholder Chapel to Reddington Christian Church or Alzheimer’s Research. Arrangements entrusted to Burkholder Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, 419 N. Chestnut Street, Seymour, IN. Interment will be at Reddington Cemetery.
