Edith Jaynes, 89, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:28 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2020, at her daughter’s residence.

Born September 5, 1931, in Breathet, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Elizabeth Viers Roberts. She married Delbert Smith in March 1949; he preceded her in death in 1986.

Edith was a 50 year member of The Tabernacle in Seymour. She worked in home healthcare and preparing food at AVI Foodsystems in Seymour. Edith enjoyed gardening, flowers, working outside, cooking, sewing, and painting.

Survivors include her children, DJ (Donna) Smith of Manchester, Tennessee, Linda (Mike) Munson and Maril (Tony) Riley, both of North Vernon; grandchildren, Danny (Tina) Graham, Rick (Mandy) Graham, Steve (Joann) Gatrell, Joe Fletcher, Elaine (Brandon) Croxton, and Travis (Megan) Riley, all of North Vernon, Connie (Timo) Meller-Smith of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Amanda Smith of Lakeland, Florida, Jeanne Walsh and Rachel (Mark) Riley-Kindred, both of Seymour, and Becky (Shariff) Mays of Memphis; great-grandchildren, Nick Graham, Jordan (Sydney) Graham, Lilly Graham, Steven Gatrell, Casey Gatrell, Zack Lattyak, Nathaniel Bonesteel, Blake Bonesteel, Logan Bonesteel, and Trey (Frankie) Gilpin, Becca Fletcher, Brittany Pike, Dalton Couch, Alissa Couch, and Maizey Riley, all of North Vernon, Harley Lattyak of Lawrenceburg, Mikey Lattyak of Pennsylvania, Freedom Smith, Garrett Kindred, Jaylah Kindred, and Christian Wilson, all of Seymour, Zane Meller-Smith of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Brooklyn Smith, Lyrick Smith, and Kingston Smith, all of Manchester, Tennessee, and Joe Fletcher and Jacob Fletcher, both of Columbus; great-great-grandchildren, Hunter Graham, Brooklyn Graham, Tobis Graham, Konner Ruark, Avery Gilpin, Delmer Pike, Bentley Roberts, and Kennedy Reynolds, all of North Vernon, and Mabel Lattyak of Lawrenceburg; nephews, Ronnie (Kim) Roberts of Seymour, Freddie Bowman of Lawrenceburg, and Bobby Herald of Austin; and several nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Martha Smith Robinson; brother, Walter “Bud” Roberts; sisters, Hazel Bowman and Martha Herald; and grandchild, Jason Smith.

A funeral service for Edith will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Larry Arrowood officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home for Riley Children’s Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Chilren.
