SALEM

Michael Lee Murry, 65, of Salem, Indiana lost his short but fierce battle with Covid 19 on December 11, 2020. He was born in Tucson, Arizona and spent his childhood years moving from place to place before entering the foster care system in Pennsylvania. Mike graduated from Council Rock High School in Washington Crossing, PA, then entered the US Air Force as an airman. Through hard work and determination he earned his bachelor’s degree which led to his commission as a USAF officer. Before his retirement from the Air Force he earned his master’s degree in Human Resources and made that his career for the next 27 years. Most recently Michael spent 17 years at Austin Tri-Hawk Automotive in Austin, IN before retiring once again and joining his son at Touchdown Business Solutions in New Albany, Indiana where he served as Executive Vice President.

Michael is survived by his wife of 40 years, Melinda; two sons, Matthew (Mallory) Murry of Louisville, KY and Mark (Dorothy) Murry; and granddaughter Annabelle Rose, his precious and favorite playmate, of Bloomington, IN.

Michael was a 20-year veteran of the United States Air Force, served on a number of emergency response teams including flooding responses in Parkville and Booneville, MO and Medora, IN as well as tornado recovery efforts in Siren, WI. He also served on mission teams to Haiti and the Dominican Republic. He was an active member of the Scottsburg Kiwanis Club and was a past member of Central Christian Church in Seymour, IN and Covenant Community Fellowship in New Albany, IN.

Out of love and concern for friends and co-workers, there will not be visitation or funeral arrangements at this time. However, a Celebration of Life gathering is planned for May 8, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Mike’s home in Salem, IN.

Because Mike grew up in the foster care system, The Refuge for Children in Austin, Indiana was a project near and dear to his heart. In lieu of flowers please remember Michael with a donation to The Refuge for Children, 50 S. First Street, Austin, IN, 47102.
