Lonny “Wayne” Minton, 70, of Crothersville, IN, passed away at 8:23 AM on Saturday, December 12th, 2020 at Columbus Regional Health in Columbus, IN. Wayne was born on Monday, July 17, 1950, the 6th child to Oscar and Leona (Cheek) Minton, who are both deceased. On February 26, 1994, Wayne married Lucinda (Hensley) Minton in Tampico, IN. Wayne was a 1968 Manchester High School graduate. He moved from Clay County in 1968 to Jackson County, IN, and worked as a Union Laborer and Supervisor for Bateman Builders and Force Construction Co. Inc. Wayne started Minton Construction Inc. in 1977 and worked and operated it for 23 years, retiring in 2000. In 1969 Wayne was drafted by the Army. He started basic training in May and was a part of the 2nd Infantry 4th of 7th Calvary Head Quarters Troop during the Vietnam Era. In 1970 he had training in Fort Knox, KY, and Fort Gordon, GA. In 1971, they sent him to South Korea stationed at Camp Stanton, south of the DMZ. In 1972, he received an honorable discharge with the status of Sergeant E-5. Wayne was a member of New Hope Church in Acme, IN. He was a tremendous Bible and Sunday School Teacher. When he was a child growing up in Kentucky, after working outside all day he liked to sit by the fireplace (the only light they had) and read the Bible after everyone had gone to bed. At age 10, he read the entire Bible. He was patient, kind, an encourager, and a great listener. He was a Jack of all trades, King of Cornhole, liked working crossword puzzles, was an excellent cook, an avid gardener, and enjoyed driving his skid steer. He loved being outside, hunting deer, rabbits, squirrels, and going fishing. Wayne had a God-given talent to build. He was an extremely gifted and talented engineer and builder. He had always said since he was a little boy, he could visualize a project from the ground up and knew just how to build a project. Wayne loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his loving wife of 26 years, Lucinda Minton of Crothersville, IN, 5 children, Anna Minton of Crothersville, IN, Katrina (Michael) Prince of Crothersville, IN, Sabrina (Trevor) Dailey of Seymour IN, Yvonne Minton of Columbus, IN and the golden child, Caleb (Jaeleigh Campbell) Minton of Scottsburg, IN. 7 grandchildren, Isaac (Taylor) Thompson, Lesley Dailey, Josilyn Dailey, Ethan Littleton, Madison Thompson, Lilly Prince, Owen Prince,1 great-grandchild, Taegan Dailey and one great-grandchild on the way in July, siblings, 4 sisters, Jewell England of Manchester, KY, Joyce (John) Hammons of Crothersville, IN, Mary Miller of Crothersville, IN, and Kathy (Travis) Wooten of Austin, IN. 2 brothers, Marshall (Wyanna) Minton of Crothersville, IN, and Ronald Minton of Manchester, KY. He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Anna Lee Madden, Elsie Money, 3 brothers Ray, Loren, and Darrell Minton. Pastor Jim Blackburn will conduct private family funeral services at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at Adams Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Crothersville with graveside services to follow at Cana Cemetery at 12:30 PM. Military honors will be conducted at the gravesite. Family and friends are welcome to join the family at the graveside services. The Funeral service will be live-streamed on the funeral home’s Facebook page. A walk-thru visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 at Adams Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Crothersville and Thursday, December 17 at 10:00 AM until the time of the service. In accordance with CDC guidelines, masks are required before admittance to the funeral home as well as social distancing within the building. We kindly ask that there be no physical contact such as hugs or handshakes to protect staff and the family. Attendance is limited to 25 people at any given time.
