A Seymour man was arrested Friday for the rape of a 15-year-old girl, police report.

Christopher D. Blum, 31, faces a preliminary Level 1 felony charge of rape and Level 5 felony charges of sexual misconduct with a minor and criminal confinement.

He was arrested by members of the Seymour Police Department SWAT team after they served a search warrant at a home in the 100 block of Green Circle Avenue in Village Green Mobile Home Park on the south side of the city, according to a news release from Lt. C.J. Foster.

The arrest of Blum stems from an investigation that started when officers responded to a possible sexual assault reported by the girl, Foster said.

Interviews were conducted by officers, which led to the search warrant signed by Jackson Superior Court II Judge Bruce MacTavish, Foster said.

He said Blum cooperated with the SWAT team, which also included officers with the Brownstown Police Department and Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, during the search and his arrest.

Blum was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 2:57 p.m. Friday and is being held without bond pending his initial court appearance.

A Level 1 felony carries a sentence of 20 to 40 years in prison upon conviction with an advisory sentence of 30 years.
