The Bedford North Lawrence girls outscored Seymour 19-6 in the second period and led the rest of the way to post a 62-37 win in a Hoosier Hills Conference game on the Stars’ floor Thursday night.

The Stars held a 9-8 lead at the end of the first period.

After Grace Meyer scored a basket for the Owls at the beginning of the second quarter, the Stars went on a 13-0 run to take a 21-10 lead on the way to a 28-14 lead at the half.

Chloe Spreen, the Stars’ standout freshman, scored 11 in the second period and finished with 18.

The Owls committed 29 turnovers and 10 came in the second period.

“I thought we came out a little tentative,” Owls coach Jason Longmeier said. “Our conversation at halftime was to start attacking. We took less threes in the second half.

“I thought our half-court defense was pretty good. We’ve got to clean up our mental aspect.”

Chloe McKnight’s 3-point shot midway through the third period increased Bedford’s lead to 38-18, before Kendall Sterling made two free throws, followed by a basket to make it a 38-22 score.

The Stars held a 42-25 lead going into the fourth period as McKnight scored eight points in the third period.

She finished with 22 points to top the 1,000 mark in career scoring.

Grace Schrader and Kendall Sterling topped the Owls with 10 points each.

The Stars, ranked No. 5 in the state in the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association poll, are 8-1 overall and 4-0 in the HHC.

The Owls (4-4, 0-2 HHC) will travel to Madison on Saturday afternoon.
