Jackson County United Way’s Free Income Tax Assistance program is entering its 11th year of providing free tax assistance to families throughout Jackson County.

In 2020, FITA was able to help 521 clients get back $680,677 in federal and $41,515 in state refunds.

The program runs on the time and dedication volunteers give to help greet clients, intake and scan documents and prepare taxes. Certified ethics and tax preparation training is given to volunteers before the program begins.

The deadline to register to become a FITA volunteer is Dec. 18.
